What Determines the Cost of an Air Ambulance Flight?
There is no fixed price list for air ambulance repatriation — and any website that shows you one is oversimplifying. Every mission is priced on the real factors below, then confirmed in a detailed written quote before you commit to anything.
Why there's no fixed price list
Two missions that sound similar on paper — same country, similar distance — can cost very differently once you factor in the aircraft available on short notice, the level of medical crew the patient's condition requires, and the ground logistics at both ends. Publishing a generic price grid would either overstate simple cases or dangerously understate complex ones. Instead, we assess your specific case and provide an itemized quote, usually within hours of your first call.
What affects the price
Distance & routing
Direct distance, but also aircraft repositioning, fuel stops, and overflight or landing permits for the countries en route.
Aircraft type & configuration
A light jet for a short regional transfer costs less to operate than a long-range aircraft configured for multiple ICU stretchers.
Medical team & equipment
A single nurse escort is not priced like an ICU physician, an ECMO specialist, and the monitoring, oxygen and drug supply that comes with them.
Ground transportation
Bed-to-bed coordination means ambulance transfer is organized at departure and arrival — this ground logistics is part of the total, not a separate surprise.
Mission complexity & timing
An immediate departure, a night or holiday mission, or multiple patients travelling together all affect crew planning and cost.
Insurance vs. direct payment
With an authorized insurer or assistance company, we can coordinate billing directly with them; without one, the quote is settled directly with you or your family.
How we build your quote
First call
You describe the patient's condition, current location and destination — no cost yet, just information.
Medical & logistics review
Our coordinator confirms the crew and aircraft the case actually requires, not a default package.
Itemized written quote
Aircraft, medical crew, ground ambulances and standard logistics are listed individually, so nothing is discovered after confirmation.
Confirmation & mission
Once you approve the quote, the aircraft and crew are secured and the mission is scheduled.
Pricing questions we hear most
No — and we're cautious of any provider who does. Two missions that look similar on paper can require very different aircraft, crew and logistics. We assess each case and provide a detailed written quote, usually within hours of your first call.
In many cases, yes. We work directly with insurers and assistance companies worldwide, provide full medical and cost documentation, and can coordinate billing directly with them when authorized — see our dedicated page for insurers and assistance companies.
Our quotes itemize the aircraft, medical crew, ground ambulances and standard logistics individually, so you know exactly what's included before confirming — any exceptions are flagged upfront, never discovered afterward.
